Digital Archive of Scottish Gaelic (DASG)

Active

Description

The Digital Archive of Scottish Gaelic (DASG), in Gaelic Dachaigh airson Stòras na Gàidhlig, is a digital resource for the Scottish Gaelic language, established in 2006 within Celtic and Gaelic at the University of Glasgow. Its central holding is Corpas na Gàidhlig, a text corpus drawn from Gaelic writing across several centuries and searchable through a dedicated query platform, alongside a fieldwork archive of around 700 manuscripts and some 50,000 headwords gathered between the 1960s and the 1980s in mainland Scotland, the islands and Nova Scotia.

The archive maintains bespoke research tools, among them Am Briathradan and LEACAN, and a transcribed audio collection opened in 2015. DASG has been a recognised British Academy Academy Research Project since 2007, renewed for 2024 to 2029, and its corpus supplies the evidence base for the historical dictionary project Faclair na Gàidhlig.
