International Centre for Historical Research in Education (ICHRE)

Description

The International Centre for Historical Research in Education (ICHRE) is a research centre at the UCL Institute of Education devoted to research, scholarship and teaching in the history of education, broadly defined. Formed in 2014 to build on the tradition of historical research at the Institute of Education, it is now based within the Centre for Humanities in the Department of Education, Practice and Society. Its members research UCL's own institutional histories, including the Generation UCL project on 200 years of student life in London, and its research projects cover the history of the School Meals Service, the archives of charities and voluntary organisations, historical pageants in twentieth-century Britain and Chinese women's international thought and diplomacy. ICHRE runs the History of Education Seminar, a series of hybrid talks at which established historians and early-career researchers present their work, and offers the Richard Aldrich Bursary to help students and staff affiliated to UCL attend conferences and workshops in the history of education. It works in close partnership with UCL Special Collections and UCL Culture, and has links with the History of Education Society (UK) and the International Standing Conference in the History of Education (ISCHE).
