Scottish Council on Archives (SCA)

Description

The Scottish Council on Archives is a Scottish charitable incorporated organisation that describes its purpose as providing leadership and building capacity for the archives and records management sector across Scotland. Its registered charitable purposes include researching and assessing the social and economic impact of archives and records management services, and promoting the results of that research. Its standing programmes include a set of records retention schedules for the sector, a discovery portal bringing together the holdings of over eighty contributing repositories, and an early career essay prize whose winning entry may be published in a peer reviewed journal. In 2026 it began scoping a national consortium for digital preservation or collections management software on behalf of the sector, and it runs an annual conference in Edinburgh.
