UKRI AI Centre for Doctoral Training in Designing Responsible Natural Language Processing
ActiveDescription
The UKRI AI Centre for Doctoral Training in Designing Responsible Natural Language Processing is based at the University of Edinburgh, delivered through the Edinburgh Futures Institute together with the School of Informatics, the Institute for Design Informatics, the School of Philosophy, Psychology and Language Sciences, Edinburgh College of Art and Edinburgh Law School. It trains cohorts of PhD researchers to design natural language processing responsibly, covering data and model practices, explainability, human-NLP interaction, governance and accountability, and participatory design methods. The centre was announced in November 2023 and welcomed its first cohort in September 2024, with a second cohort following in September 2025 and further studentships open for 2026. It works with a wide network of academic, industry, public sector and policy placement partners across the UK and internationally, and continues the work of the University's earlier UKRI Centre for Doctoral Training in Natural Language Processing.
