Oxford Resilient Buildings and Landscapes Lab (OxRBL)
ActiveDescription
The Oxford Resilient Buildings and Landscapes Lab (OxRBL) is a research lab in the School of Geography and the Environment at the University of Oxford, working at the intersection of biogeomorphology and heritage conservation. It grew out of the earlier Oxford Rock Breakdown Laboratory, whose core work on the weathering and deterioration of rock and natural stone the lab still builds on, and has broadened into wider questions of building and landscape resilience. OxRBL carries out research and outreach across four themes: linking culture, climate change and heritage conservation; developing scientific methods for diagnosing and monitoring change in natural and built heritage; developing innovative conservation techniques for complex heritage sites and challenging materials; and linking the conservation of biodiversity with heritage conservation. It works through a collaborative partnership with the Getty Conservation Institute (the Built Heritage Research Initiative) and a partnership with the Dunhuang Research Academy in north-west China, alongside UK and international heritage bodies and research partners.
