English Heritage
ActiveDescription
English Heritage (The English Heritage Trust) is a registered charity and AHRC-recognised Independent Research Organisation that cares for over 400 historic sites, monuments, and collections across England, spanning more than 5,000 years. Research is central to the organisation's mission: knowledge of its sites, properties, gardens, and objects underpins their conservation, interpretation, and public engagement. The organisation has a strong tradition of archaeological, conservation, and historical research, which it uses to tell the story of England in a representative and nuanced manner and to explore wider issues around heritage site and collections management. Research is carried out by staff with specialisms including history, curation, landscape, and conservation science; many are recognised experts in their fields who conduct historical and scientific research, advise on interpretation and learning, author guidebooks, and co-supervise PhD candidates. English Heritage also holds a Collaborative Doctoral Partnership with Historic England and the AHRC and hosts PhD students from affiliated Doctoral Training Partnerships. The organisation welcomes collaboration enquiries from higher education institutions, heritage bodies, and cultural sector organisations.
