StopWatch
ActiveDescription
StopWatch is a UK charity, formed in 2010 as a coalition of academics, activists, young people and legal experts, that challenges police use of stop and search powers. It draws on evidence, litigation and the lived experience of racialised communities to examine the impacts of disproportionate policing, chiefly through the lens of stop and search though its remit extends further, to advocate for effective public safety practices and to hold the police to account. Its research, resources and communications help communities build shared analysis and take collective action, translating community knowledge into policy advocacy, litigation and community engagement. StopWatch produces policy briefings, consultation responses, legal-rights guides and statutory factsheets, and an interactive dashboard tracking the volume, rate and racial disparity of stop and search across England and Wales.
