Greater Manchester Hip Hop Archive (GMHHA)
ActiveDescription
The Greater Manchester Hip Hop Archive describes itself as the first archive and resource hub for the Hip Hop movement in the United Kingdom, dedicated to telling the untold story of Hip Hop in Manchester. Its pages sit on the website of Unity Radio. It says it is committed to collecting and sharing verbal, visual, audio and physical documents about Hip Hop. Its online platform celebrates Manchester’s Hip Hop heritage through a collection of objects, ephemera, recordings, photographs, sketchbooks and clothing, with online exhibitions made in partnership with the Manchester Digital Music Archive. In 2019 it advertised for community researchers to collect oral histories and rare items covering 1980 to 2020, and it held its inaugural exhibition at Manchester Central Library in 2021. In 2026 it reported preserving MiniDisc recordings from 2002 to 2005 donated to the archive, in association with North West Sound Heritage.
