Shakespeare's Globe
ActiveDescription
Shakespeare's Globe is a theatre and education charity founded on the principle that creative practice and scholarly research are made most powerful when they inform and enrich each other; the trust behind it was founded in 1970. Its in-house scholars and collections specialists support theatre productions, education programmes, guided tours, exhibitions and other public events, and its research, guided by a Higher Education and Research Strategy with four priority themes (performance, race, climate and creative access), brings together theatre history, performance studies, archival research and practice-based inquiry; its two reconstructed early modern venues are the Globe Theatre and the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse. Its newly opened Research and Collections Centre welcomes researchers, scholars and theatre practitioners to consult its library and archive collections by appointment, and it runs a year-round programme of research events. Its partnership with King's College London runs through the Shakespeare Centre London, and the two teach a joint master's in Shakespeare Studies. The One Globe First Book Fellowship supports an early career scholar of colour based in the UK or Ireland, and, with the Society for Renaissance Studies, the Globe delivers the Early Modern Scholars of Colour (EMSOC) mentoring scheme.
