The Royal Numismatic Society (RNS) was founded in 1836 as The Numismatic Society of London and received its Royal Charter in 1904. The Society exists to support the study of numismatics, the study of coins, medals and related currency items, and to promote scholarship on any subject related to numismatics. It holds meetings on the third Tuesday of the month between October and June, open to all, which move to the Warburg Institute from October 2026.

It publishes The Numismatic Chronicle, its annual peer-reviewed journal, and a series of Special Publications, and awards research grants twice a year, prizes and the Society's Medal. It holds a joint library with the British Numismatic Society at the Warburg Institute, which manages the library while the two societies retain ownership of the books.
