British Museum
Description
The British Museum actively promotes academic research of the highest quality by its own staff, and supports the research of others. This research is intended to advance the care, display and public understanding of the history of humanity as represented by the objects in the British Museum's collection, and to help people learn, understand and be inspired by human history through objects.
Museum staff carry out research all over the world, challenging existing concepts of the past, through new and collaborative forms of knowledge creation and using cutting edge technology. Research projects cover a wide variety of academic disciplines and can involve archaeological excavation, studies of museum collections, working with craftspeople, understanding visitors, conservation and scientific investigations.
The British Museum's research depends on partnerships and collaborations across the world and throughout the United Kingdom. Spanning two million years of global history, all of the museum's research starts with objects – things that people have made and used – from ancient flint tools found at the oldest ancient human site in Northern Europe to contemporary Middle Eastern art, helping people to learn, understand and be inspired by human history.
