ARIEL: UCL’s Centre for Creative Practice Research
ActiveDescription
ARIEL is UCL’s Centre for Creative Practice Research, begun as a collaboration between the UCL Institute of Advanced Studies (IAS) and the UCL School of Creative and Cultural Industries (SCCI). ARIEL is a hub for intellectual exploration and exchange between academics of all disciplines and artists of all genres in the creative and cultural industries, and the Centre has affiliated staff and students from across UCL. Its name stands for Artistic Research for Inspiration Experimentation and Learning. The Centre aims to create opportunities for artists and academics to pursue experimental, open-ended projects that are two-way exchanges with mutually transformative effects. Creative Fellowships were last awarded in 2025, on the theme Knowledge Futures in the Age of AI, and the Centre held a Critical Conversation Forum in March 2026. The Institute of Advanced Studies closed on 31 July 2026; most of its research centres continue within faculties or departments, and the Centre’s new home had not been announced by September 2026.
