Machine Listening Lab (MLLab)

Description

The Machine Listening Lab (MLLab) at Queen Mary University of London develops methods for making sense of natural sounds, everyday sounds and recorded music. Machine listening is the use of signal processing and machine learning to extract useful information from sound. The lab is one of the research labs of the Centre for Digital Music (C4DM), and it also lists the Centre for Multimodal AI (CMAI), the Centre for Doctoral Training in AI and Music (AIM) and the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science among its affiliations.

Its work spans music information retrieval and transcription, bioacoustic and environmental sound monitoring, speech enhancement, and acoustic scene and sound event detection. The lab reports six current funded projects, with funders including UKRI and industry, and its members present their research at conferences such as ISMIR and NeurIPS.
