Landscape South, AHRC Doctoral Landscape Award
ActiveDescription
Landscape South is an AHRC-funded hub for doctoral training in the arts and humanities, one of the AHRC's Doctoral Landscape Awards, led by Royal Holloway, University of London and bringing together eleven universities in the South East and South West of England: Royal Holloway, Oxford Brookes University, the Open University and the universities of Brighton, Bristol, Exeter, Kent, Oxford, Reading, Southampton and Sussex. Funded from March 2026 to September 2034, it works with partners outside higher education including Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, the Museum of London, The National Archives, the Royal National Theatre, the British Film Institute, the Natural History Museum, Historic Royal Palaces and the Crafts Council. Each member university offers three AHRC-funded studentships a year from 2026 to 2030, covering UK-rate fees and a stipend for three and a half years including a three-month placement, with up to 30 per cent of awards open to international applicants; its first doctoral researchers start in autumn 2026. A core hub team based at Royal Holloway runs the programme with a management committee drawn from all member universities, and the hub draws on the networks of earlier doctoral training partnerships in the region, including CHASE, OOC, SWWDTP and Techne.
