Description

The Centre for the Study and Application of Stoicism (CSAS) is a multidisciplinary research centre at Royal Holloway, University of London, bringing together academics in philosophy, classics, psychology and business to study ancient Stoicism and its practical application. Its work runs in three strands: understanding Stoicism on its own terms through academic study; testing Stoic ideas, including with data from the Stoic Week programme run by Modern Stoicism; and applying them by supporting Stoic practice in schools, business, prisons, medical training and student wellbeing, working closely with the Aurelius Foundation. The centre holds a biennial research workshop on ancient Stoicism, most recently in 2025, and an annual June conference mixing academic and practitioner presentations, held for the third time in June 2026. Work linked to the centre includes a co-edited reference volume on Musonius Rufus, a psychometric scale study, two doctoral theses and a book on business leadership.
