Cultural Geo-Analytics Lab
ActiveDescription
The Cultural Geo-Analytics Lab is a research lab in the Department of Digital Humanities at King's College London that uses geographic data science to study cultural institutions, cultural products and their audiences. Its work asks where culture is created and consumed, what drives the location of museums, archives, cinemas and theatres, how audiences cluster in neighbourhoods and regions, how online platforms mediate cultural production and consumption, and what large-scale user-generated content reveals about cultural life.
Its research spans museums, social media, film, publishing and music, looking for the patterns that shape places and cultural identities internationally, and it investigates spatial inequalities in access to culture with the aim of supporting policy towards more equitable cultural landscapes. The lab describes its methods as geographic data science and GeoAI applied to the creative and cultural industries and the GLAM sector, bridging data science, human geography and the humanities.
