Doing AI Differently

Description

Doing AI Differently is an initiative of the Alan Turing Institute and the University of Edinburgh, supported by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, which sets out to bring humanities methods into the core of artificial intelligence development rather than applying them after systems are built. It published a white paper setting out that position and has since run a funded sandpit inviting interdisciplinary teams to develop projects at that intersection, alongside workshops and publications with international collaborators. Its outputs include a multi author paper on computational hermeneutics published in 2026 and a workshop on culture and artificial intelligence held at an international machine learning conference the same year. On the Scottish side it is published through The New Real, a partnership of the same two institutions.
