The New Real
ActiveDescription
The New Real is a research hub for artificial intelligence, creativity and futures, established in 2019 as the public programme of Experiential AI at the University of Edinburgh, where it sits between the Edinburgh Futures Institute and Edinburgh College of Art and works in partnership with the Alan Turing Institute and Edinburgh's festivals. Under its Doing AI Differently initiative it treats arts and humanities perspectives as integral rather than supplemental to the development of artificial intelligence, producing AI-driven artworks, a magazine and the New Real Observatory, a platform combining climate modelling and machine learning. It is funded through UK Research and Innovation, by the Arts and Humanities Research Council and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, together with Creative Scotland, the Scottish AI Alliance and the Data-Driven Innovation Programme.
