Fèisean nan Gàidheal

Description

Fèisean nan Gàidheal is the umbrella body for the Fèis movement, the network of community-based Gaelic arts tuition festivals held across Scotland. Established in 1991, a decade after the first Fèis was held on the Isle of Barra, it is a Scottish charity and a company limited by guarantee, with offices in Portree and Inverness. Its work is Gaelic arts tuition, drama in education, Gaelic learning resources, and the Blas festival, which it delivers with The Highland Council. It maintains a research page collecting third-party studies of the movement's cultural, social, economic and linguistic impact, the most recent published in 2022. Since November 2024 it has been a funded partner in AMPLIFY, a Horizon Europe project developing artificial intelligence and extended reality tools for remote music teaching and performance, in which it leads a pilot on renewing tradition and the technical development sits with the project's technology partners.
