Comunn Eachdraidh Nis (Ness Historical Society)

Active

Description

Comunn Eachdraidh Nis, known in English as Ness Historical Society, records the history, language and culture of the Ness district of the Isle of Lewis. Founded in 1977, it maintains a local history archive built up over nearly fifty years and runs an accredited museum at North Dell, accredited under the name Ness Heritage Centre. Its collections are catalogued on a public online platform, which lists around 1,160 items including some 621 in its archive category, and archive visits are arranged through the archive manager. The society runs a weekly Gaelic conversation event alongside its wider talks programme, and holds local history and genealogical material relating to North Lewis.
