The Islands Book Trust (Urras Leabhraichean nan Eilean)
ActiveDescription
The Islands Book Trust, in Gaelic Urras Leabhraichean nan Eilean, is a membership charity on the Isle of Lewis that researches and publishes the history and culture of the Scottish islands. It was registered as a charity in December 2001 and launched in 2002, and it maintains a publishing list of around eighty publications alongside a set of freely downloadable resources. Its programme includes periodic conferences, most recently on population and cultural change in the Faroes and Hebrides in the early Viking period, together with public talks across the islands and a writer residency. The Trust reports a 2026 grant from a regional fund, not yet finally confirmed, to launch a digital heritage initiative adding a digital hub and an islands heritage and skills network.
