Description

Extant is the UK's leading professional performing arts company of and for visually impaired artists and theatre practitioners, founded in 1997 and based in Brixton in London. A registered charity, it produces touring theatre and audio drama, develops blind and partially sighted artists through training and mentoring, and runs Enhance, a national access-training programme helping theatre companies and venues make their work accessible to visually impaired audiences. Its work explores visual impairment as a source of creativity, using haptic and multisensory performance technologies and integrated audio description, and it delivers participation programmes for visually impaired people alongside disability-arts research. It has been an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation for over a decade.
