Centre for Performance, Technology, and Equity (PTEQ)
ActiveDescription
The Centre for Performance, Technology, and Equity (PTEQ) is a research centre at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London. It develops approaches to immersive and digital technologies from a performance-led perspective while promoting social equity. Its work sits at the intersection of performance and technology, carried out with community and cultural-industries partners, and aims to champion inclusivity, diversity and resource equity, to transform the discipline of theatre and performance, to foster cross-sector innovation, and to position the UK as a global leader in combining social justice with technological innovation through the arts. The centre expands research begun in the school's Performance Lab and operates a motion-capture studio and a sonic-arts lab, with a media lab under construction as part of a new building on the school's Swiss Cottage campus. It runs funded PhD studentships, postdoctoral research posts, a summer residency and professional-skills training, and makes its facilities available for hire. It was established in 2024 with a five-year investment from Research England's Expanding Excellence in England (E3) fund.
