Oxford Collaboration on Theology and Artificial Intelligence (OCTAI)
ActiveDescription
The Oxford Collaboration on Theology and Artificial Intelligence (OCTAI) is a global, interdisciplinary initiative hosted by the Ian Ramsey Centre for Science and Religion in the Faculty of Theology and Religion at the University of Oxford. Launched in 2024, it brings together theologians, philosophers, ethicists, engineers and artificial intelligence practitioners to examine the ethical and vocational dimensions of AI development. Its flagship output is the Oxford Oath, a professional and ethical commitment for those working in artificial intelligence, modelled on professional covenants such as the Physicians' Covenant, alongside an accompanying open letter. Through a series of workshops and cross-disciplinary seminars it foregrounds questions of conscience, human dignity and societal value in AI, and deliberately amplifies perspectives from the global majority world. The initiative is supported by a donation from the John Templeton Foundation.
