ActiveDescription
The Northumbria Centre for Responsible AI is a university-based research centre working on the responsible development and governance of artificial intelligence, with a particular strength in law, ethics, policy and the criminal-justice and public-service uses of AI. Launched in May 2025, it brings together researchers across law, computing and the social sciences. Its flagship programme, PROBabLE Futures, examines the reliability, evidentiary status and accountability of AI used in policing and the justice system. The centre pursues interdisciplinary research, public engagement and work with policymakers and practitioners on how AI can be developed and deployed responsibly and in the public interest.
