UKRI AI Centre for Doctoral Training in Citizen-Centred Artificial Intelligence (CCAI)

Active

Description

The Citizen-Centred Artificial Intelligence Centre for Doctoral Training (CCAI) is a UKRI-funded doctoral training centre at Northumbria University's School of Computer Science in Newcastle. It trains PhD researchers to place citizens at the centre of the design, development and governance of AI systems, working across nine research themes spanning health, security, law and regulation, design, sustainability, work, education, democracy, and explainability and bias. Researchers undertake placements with public, private and third sector partner organisations alongside their doctoral studies. The centre aims to train over 60 PhD researchers across an eight year programme, with its third cohort beginning study in 2026.
