Digital Cultural Heritage Lab, Glasgow
ActiveDescription
Digital Cultural Heritage is an interdisciplinary research lab within the University of Glasgow College of Arts and Humanities Arts Lab. It brings together researchers and practitioners from a wide range of disciplines and industries who are interested in using digital technologies to support cultural activities and to interpret the past. The lab supports a broad spectrum of activity, including mentoring, hacking and making events, and seminars. Its work spans digital cultural heritage and museums; digitisation and the documentation and management of cultural collections; immersive and virtual reality experiences; extended reality (XR) for difficult heritage; digital storytelling; and the use of artificial intelligence in cultural heritage and in arts and humanities research. The lab works with galleries, libraries, archives and museums, and has contributed to projects such as the EU Horizon 2020 EMOTIVE project on emotive digital storytelling for cultural heritage and a series of virtual reality reconstructions of historic and difficult heritage sites. It convenes public workshops, seminars and showcases, including recent events on evaluating difficult heritage XR and on artificial intelligence in cultural heritage.
