Creativity, AI, and the Human Research Cluster
ActiveDescription
Creativity, AI, and the Human is an interdisciplinary research cluster based at the Edinburgh Futures Institute (EFI), University of Edinburgh. It treats creativity not only as artistic expression but as a vital human capacity central to innovation, adaptation, and imagining alternative futures, and it examines how generative AI is reshaping ideas about human creativity, its processes, its value, and its future. The cluster brings together a community of over 90 members, around three quarters from across the University (spanning three Colleges and nine Schools) and around one quarter from external partners in industry and higher education across the UK, Europe, the US, and China. Its work is organised around five themes: theories and practices of creativity; AI in creative domains; human-centred and social dimensions of AI; AI ethics, responsibility, and governance; and AI in knowledge and learning contexts. Activity includes workshops, talks, performances, and collaborative projects. The cluster launched in May 2024.
