Humanities and Data Science, The Alan Turing Institute
ActiveDescription
Humanities and Data Science is a national interest group hosted by The Alan Turing Institute, working at the intersection of data science and digital humanities. Decades of digitisation have given humanities scholars access to large digital collections that can be analysed computationally and quantitatively, opening new ways to approach research questions from the practical to the high profile. Since its creation in 2017 the group has strengthened relationships and built collaborations across this intersection. It aims to raise the profile of data-driven humanities research nationally and within the Turing, to nourish interdisciplinarity, and to strengthen links between national institutions and organisations, universities and the Turing. The group pursues its aims through a series of meetings, workshops and joint research projects, and brings together experts from digital humanities, historical data research, information science, computer science, natural language processing and related disciplines. Membership operates through institutional delegates in a two-way exchange of knowledge about institutional and Turing activities, with member meetings held monthly online.
