Ceredigion Archives (Archifdy Ceredigion)
ActiveDescription
Ceredigion Archives (Archifdy Ceredigion) is the county record office for Ceredigion, the county formerly known as Cardiganshire (Welsh: Sir Aberteifi), based in the Old Town Hall in Aberystwyth. Part of Ceredigion County Council and an Accredited Archive Service recognised by The National Archives, it collects, preserves and makes available official and private documents relating to the history of the county, covering both historic and contemporary evidential material. Holdings and resources support family history, local history, house history and related research, and include a vehicle registrations database for Cardiganshire (EJ) registrations, a military voters database of Great War survivors, and a digital archive of digitised photographs, postcards, glass slides, family papers, scrapbooks and ephemera. The service runs a public search room in Aberystwyth, offers a paid research service, reprographic copying and bilingual talks, supports the council's information and records management (including data protection training and subject access requests), and welcomes volunteers and new deposits.
