The Bar Council

Active

Description

The Bar Council is the representative body and professional voice of the barrister profession in England and Wales. It leads, represents and supports the Bar in the public interest, championing the rule of law and access to justice, with a membership of more than 18,000 self-employed and employed barristers. As the General Council of the Bar, it is the approved regulator for all practising barristers in England and Wales, delegating its regulatory functions to the operationally independent Bar Standards Board (BSB). Its work includes providing advice, guidance, training and events for members; supporting the next generation of barristers; drawing on members' expertise to influence the development of policy and legislation in support of an independent justice system; and promoting the Bar of England and Wales to develop career and business opportunities for barristers at home and abroad.
