Statute Law Society
ActiveDescription
The Statute Law Society, founded in 1968, is a charitable membership body with members throughout Britain, the Commonwealth and elsewhere. It aims to educate the legal profession and the public about the legislative process, with a view to encouraging improvements in statute law. The Society promotes knowledge and understanding of legislation and the legislative process, principally by holding lectures and conferences that stimulate and inform debate about law-making. Its stated objects are to further technical improvements in the form and manner in which statutes and delegated legislation are expressed and published, so as to make them more readily intelligible, and to further public education in the processes and scope of legislation by gathering and disseminating information on legislative processes. To these ends it organises conferences, lectures, seminars and films, publishes books and journals, and conducts or supports research into legislative processes at home and abroad. It also runs a Teaching Legislation Initiative aimed at promoting and improving the teaching of statute law in UK law schools.
