Green and Black Cross
ActiveDescription
Green and Black Cross (GBC) is an independent grassroots project, set up in the spirit of mutual aid and solidarity to support autonomous social struggles within the UK. Founded in November 2010 to provide legal support for protests against government spending cuts, the project supports struggles for social, economic and environmental justice, with roots in the environmental and climate justice movements. It is formed of two autonomous, volunteer-run collectives: the Training Collective, which develops and delivers legal trainings for protesters and protest support (Know Your Rights and Legal Observing), and the Resources Collective, which creates and maintains resources including the website, printed bustcards and booklets, an e-bustcard app and social media. These collectives work alongside independent legal-support groups including the Independent Legal Observer Network (ILON), a 24/7 protest support phone helpline, the Activist Court Aid Brigade (ACAB) and the Network for Police Monitoring (Netpol). The project is mostly based in London, with groups in Manchester and Cornwall.
