Open Rights Group (ORG)
ActiveDescription
Open Rights Group (ORG) is the UK's largest grassroots digital rights campaigning organisation, working to protect rights to privacy and free speech online. It campaigns for a fair digital environment in which technology supports justice, equality, and freedom, employing strategies that include advocacy, lobbying, litigation, and public outreach. ORG challenges threats to privacy from both government surveillance and commercial data exploitation, and threats to free speech through online censorship, criminalisation of speech, and restrictive copyright law. The organisation centres on those most affected by digital harms (Including migrants, racialised communities, disabled people, and people on lower incomes) in its campaigns. ORG produces substantial policy research, including responses to government consultations, parliamentary briefings, and investigative reports on topics such as AI in asylum decision-making, data protection law, surveillance, targeted advertising, and digital identification. It has five legal victories and maintains active local groups in eleven UK cities.
