Worker Info Exchange (WIE)
ActiveDescription
Worker Info Exchange (WIE) is a non-profit organisation dedicated to helping gig economy workers reclaim control over the data collected from them at work, challenging unfair algorithmic systems and holding tech platforms to account. The organisation operates through three strands of activity: data access -- facilitating subject access and data portability requests on behalf of workers to create transparency over working conditions, pay determination, and performance assessment; data investigations -- conducting targeted investigations and data analyses to expose unfair algorithmic decision-making, supporting strategic litigation against illegal automated dismissals and management decisions; and data trusts -- supporting trade unions and grassroots worker organisations to aggregate workers' data collectively to better resource collective bargaining and action. WIE produces research reports on platform-based labour exploitation and advocates for regulation of algorithmic management in the gig economy.
