The Network encompasses researchers specialising in medical ethics and foundational aspects of philosophy of medicine, although it predominantly focuses on practical issues concerning medical evidence and ethical considerations. This includes empirical ethics and empirical philosophy. The philosophers of medicine at Oxford have made notable and quantifiable contributions beyond the realm of philosophy, as demonstrated by the 2014 REF assessment.

The objectives of the Oxford Philosophy and Medicine Network are as follows:
