Faith and Civil Society Unit
Description
The Faiths and Civil Society Unit is a distinguished institution that synthesises research, policy, and practice in the sphere of faith-oriented social action. This unit coalesces politics, policy, sociology, society, and professional practice.
The unit scrutinises:
- Politics and Policy: It assesses the manner in which decision-makers influence and mold faith-oriented social action in public domain and its implications for deliberation, participation, inclusion, and social justice.
- Sociology and Society: It explores whether society is secular, post-secular, or a complex combination of both, contemplates the discourse around religion in society, and identifies its critical issues.
- Professional Practice: It investigates the activities, methodologies, impacts, and challenges of faith-based social actors.
The unit employs an interdisciplinary approach to foster efficient collaboration amongst religious, non-religious groups, policy makers, and practitioners. Key activities comprise the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) Faith and Society's 'Keeping the Faith' report, a network of Research Fellows, the Religion and Belief Literacy Programme, and various seminars and events.
