Creative Economies Lab
Description
The Creative Economies Lab, a research and delivery wing within UWE Bristol's Digital Cultures Research Centre, focuses on bolstering research and development and innovation (R&DI) within the creative industry. Founded in 2016, the lab aims to comprehend how people, places, organisations, and things interact to foster a prosperous future for creative work. This is achieved through real-world testing and rigorous conceptual inquiry. The current research themes include:
- Cultivating Creative Places and Spaces
- Comprehending Cultural Ecologies
- Boosting Resilience in Creative Businesses
- Investigating Future Economic Models for Creativity
The lab, in collaboration with long-standing partner Watershed, facilitates cohort-led research and development to spur innovation in the creative sector. The team has secured over £10m in funding to develop platforms for collaboration among creative practitioners, businesses, thinkers, artists, and academics. The funded projects delve into the impacts of emerging technologies on daily lives and future, spanning data, surveillance, artificial intelligence, the role of technology in social cohesion and performance, and human-centric responses to climate change.
The lab values collaborative work and prioritises Knowledge Exchange and Creative Production in its methodology.
