Centre for Food System Resilience (formerly Global Food Security, GFS)

Description

How can everyone in the world have access to enough food for an active and healthy life on an ongoing basis?

With the global population estimated to reach nine billion people by 2050, food security is one of this century’s greatest challenges.

Recognising that global food security is a global challenge which requires global solutions with a holistic approach, the Centre for Food System Resilience Interdisciplinary Research Centre (formerly a Research Initiative) recognises that expertise from many disciplines is essential to understand such a complex issue and to develop effective solutions.

The Centre is a virtual network of researchers across the University, from crop scientists and engineers to specialists in policy, economics and public health. It promotes interaction and knowledge sharing, and supports collaborative research to address the issues surrounding food security at local, national and international scales.

Its Vision is to address the challenges of ensuring that all people at all times have access to sufficient, safe, and nutritious food that meets their dietary needs and preferences for an active and healthy life in a sustainable way with the changing environment; and to work with stakeholders across business, policy and civil society to put innovative solutions into practice.
