Society for the Study of Theology (SST)

Description

The Society for the Study of Theology exists to promote excellence in the study of Christian Theology by facilitating and shaping theological thought, conversation and community.

In particular, the Society’s object is to identify and discuss important themes, questions and dialogues which call for theological engagement; and to explore the nature of and foster theological integrity, responsibility and vocation in academy, church and other areas of public life.

The Society for the Study of Theology is proud to host a rich variety of approaches to theology. The Society's plenary speakers, all the contributors of short papers and seminar papers, and the many people who contribute to the Society's formal and informal conversations, speak from a wide variety of theological disciplines and approaches, and from a wide variety of contexts and backgrounds. The Society includes people who work in systematic theology and practical theology, political theology and pastoral theology, liberation theology and philosophical theology; people who pursue theology in relation to a wide variety of Christian traditions, from Quaker to Orthodox, Pentecostal to Puritan; the Society includes people who work on Black, feminist, queer, trans, and disability theologies; the Society includes people who work in the overlaps, entanglements and intersections of all these strands – and many, many others. Everyone benefits from that diversity and from the serious and generous exchange between these voices. The Society is working to increase that diversity, and to break down barriers that impede it.
