Media Discourse Centre (MDC)

Description

The Media Discourse Centre, renowned for its strong focus on the global dimension of public events, culture and politics, is devoted to the critical analysis of the contemporary social order. Its large cohort of International PhDs is drawn from Brazil, Iraq, Kuwait, Nigeria, Lebanon, and China. The Centre’s staff deliver the Channel Four Investigative Journalism Masters Degree.

Members of its interdisciplinary staff are engaged in a wide variety of projects, from the study of China’s 'nation branding', to the analysis of electronic dance music.

Other current areas of interest include the Catalan independence crisis, protest movements, cultures of surveillance and the 'deep' state, the rise of the far-right, resistance to austerity in Southern Europe, race and the postcolonial, and investigative journalism.
