Governance, Ethics and Power Research Cluster, Sheffield

Description

Governance, Ethics and Power is a research cluster of the School of Information, Journalism and Communication at the University of Sheffield. Drawing on cross-disciplinary expertise in Information Studies, Journalism and Communication, it studies the creation, dissemination and use of different kinds of information, and the rules shaping who benefits and who holds power. It aims to investigate key governance, ethics and power challenges relevant to the study and practice of information, journalism and communication and how these may be addressed. Its topics include data, information and AI governance; issues of media freedom and journalists’ safety; and international and global perspectives on information and media governance, ethics, and power. The cluster reports hosting guest speakers from academia, industry, civil society and policy, activities tailored towards PhD students, and the development of potential research collaboration projects.
