Disinformation, Information Integrity and Literacies (DIIL) Research Cluster, Sheffield
Description
The Disinformation, Information Integrity and Literacies (DIIL) Research Cluster of the School of Information, Journalism and Communication at the University of Sheffield brings together scholars from information science, journalism, communication and law to address some of the most pressing challenges in the information landscape. It researches disinformation, information integrity, and information literacies, exploring how people find, evaluate and engage with information, and how states, institutions and communities shape those experiences. Its work on disinformation and information integrity examines state-sponsored disinformation and strategic narratives, political communication and audience engagement, AI and large language models as vectors of disinformation, the spread and retraction of misinformation in scientific discourse, and the governance and ethics of information systems. Its work on information literacies spans diverse contexts, including higher education, community settings, health, and everyday life. Across both strands it combines qualitative, participatory, legal and computational approaches. The cluster reports holding research seminars with work-in-progress presentations and guest speakers, methods training sessions, grant writing activities and career development support for postgraduate and early career researchers.
