Active

Description

The Consortium for the Humanities and the Arts South-east England (CHASE) brings together 8 institutions engaged in collaborative research activities including an AHRC doctoral training partnership: the Universities of East Anglia, Essex, Kent and Sussex, The Courtauld Institute of Art, Goldsmiths, Birkbeck and SOAS. CHASE describes its work as supporting discipline-based projects while also specialising in interdisciplinary research and research in emerging fields of study and creative practice.

It reports offering a programme of training and development for doctoral researchers in arts and humanities areas across its member institutions, holds a bi-annual student conference, Encounters, and publishes an open-access student journal, Brief Encounters, with original research and creative contributions by doctoral and early career researchers. The CHASE doctoral training partnership has run its last funding competition, for studentships starting in October 2025; its training programme and conference continue.
