Jewish Music Institute (JMI)
ActiveDescription
The Jewish Music Institute (JMI) describes itself as the UK's home for Jewish music, and says it brings this living tradition to life through performance, education, and community. Its work includes a Youth Big Band, schools programmes, Summer Schools (Yiddish Song & Language, and KlezFest), the JMI Archive, academic conferences and new commissions. The JMI Archive collection includes vinyl records, shellac discs, cassette recordings, and manuscript scores.
JMI is an independent arts organisation with charitable status based at SOAS University of London, where it works closely with the Department of Music and supports a lectureship in Jewish music. JMI traces its roots back to the first B'nai B'rith Jewish Music Festival in London in 1984.
