Islamic Art Circle
ActiveDescription
The Islamic Art Circle is a society inviting guest speakers from across the globe to explore various aspects of Islamic art. It has evolved from an exclusive society, established in 1964, to a much more widely based one, and by 1970 SOAS University of London had become the main venue for lectures. Successive SOAS teaching staff took on the role of chair, organising monthly lectures during term time and inviting outside speakers to lecture on their current research.
Islamic Art Circle lectures are open to paying members, personal and institutional, and all members of the SOAS community. The Circle also organises guided tours of specific exhibitions and collections and circulates information to its mailing list on other Islamic art activities during the course of the year.
