Centre for Applied Archaeology (CAA)
Description
The Centre for Applied Archaeology (CAA) is a research and support division within the Institute of Archaeology at UCL, founded in 2006 as a research centre unit within the Institute. It reports involvement with archaeological work in over 80 countries. The CAA offers help and advice with the management of historic and archaeological sites and landscapes, and reports particular expertise in interpretation, training, documentation, cultural heritage policy and management planning. It aims to build links between commercial practice, academic research and local communities, encouraging collaboration and innovation in the heritage sector, and describes Archaeology South-East as its contract division. Its projects have included the Shanxi Digital Documentation project, the Whitehawk Camp Community Archaeology Project and a series of European partnership projects on skills, learning and community heritage, the last of which, the Erasmus+ project People, Places and Stories, ran from 2020 to 2022.
