Children, Youth, Peace and the Arts (CYPA)

Description

Children, Youth, Peace and the Arts (CYPA) brings together academics, PhD students, early career researchers and practitioners from across King's College London with a shared vision of the importance of the arts when involving children and youth in peacebuilding. It also collaborates with experts on children, youth, peace and the arts from a wider network of researchers and practitioners in the UK and internationally. In doing so, CYPA enables transdisciplinary dialogues between academics, practitioners and policy-makers on issues related to children and youth and peacebuilding, arts and peacebuilding, and the nexus of the three. Projects presented by the group include GENPEACE (Inter-generational Peace), part of the University of Lincoln's Mobile Arts for Peace programme and funded to January 2024, delivered in Bandung, Indonesia and using arts-based participatory methods, including musical drama with the traditional bamboo Angklung instrument, digital videos involving song, dance, poetry recitation, and photo narrative exhibits; and IWW Mindanao, a series of British Academy-funded International Writing Workshops for emerging scholars in the Mindanao region of the southern Philippines, organised by King's College London in partnership with Mindanao State University, Iligan Institute of Technology.
