Hellenic and Roman Library (HARL)

Description

The Hellenic and Roman Library, also known as the Combined Classics Library, is the combined library of the Institute of Classical Studies and the Hellenic and Roman Societies, a resource for those working on research in the languages, literature, history, art, archaeology and philosophy of the ancient Greek and Roman worlds. The Hellenic Society began building a library from 1880 and the Roman Society, formed in 1910, started its own collection; a Joint Library account began in 1950, and from 1953 the Institute of Classical Studies housed and administered the two collections as one unit. The Hellenic and Roman Societies, in collaboration with the University of London's Institute of Classical Studies, own and operate the library, which has been a registered charity and company since 2014. The library reports over 130,000 books and 22,000 bound volumes of periodicals.
