Description

LSE Library, formally the British Library of Political and Economic Science, is the library of the London School of Economics and Political Science. It was founded in 1896, a year after the School. The Library selects and collects material in the social sciences in the broadest sense to support the teaching and research priorities of LSE and beyond, and its collections have particular strengths in Economics, Political Science, Law, Finance and History. It is one of five National Research Libraries that Research England funds.

The Library supports original research through access to collections, curatorial expertise, and collaborative projects. Its archives and special collections include The Women's Library, which it describes as the oldest and largest library in Britain devoted to the history of women's campaigning and activism, the Hall-Carpenter Archives and the Charles Booth Archive. In March 2025 it launched a new Digital Library platform, which it reports holds more than 500,000 pages of digital content from its archival and research collections.
